Pakistan stated on Monday that the financial institution accounts of the UN designated individuals have “not been unfrozen”, a day after a media report claimed that JuD chief and Mumbai terror attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed’s account has been been restored.
“The financial institution accounts belonging to the UN Designated Persons haven’t been unfrozen by Pakistan. The focused monetary sanctions, on the UN Designated Persons, together with freezing of their financial institution accounts are in place and being strictly monitored, in compliance with the UN sanctions,” Foreign Office spokesperson Aisha Farooqui stated.
The UNSC 1267 Sanctions Committee had granted fundamental expense exemptions to the designated people in 2019, in accordance with the exemption provisions of the related UNSC resolutions, she stated.
“The exemptions had been granted to permit these people to reach their fundamental bills and don’t contain any restoration or unfreezing of the financial institution accounts. These exemptions are being enforced and monitored as per legislation,” stated the spokesperson.
It is hoped that due care can be taken in ascertaining info with related govt departments before submitting such studies sooner or later, she stated.
On Sunday, The News reported that Pakistan has restored the financial institution accounts of Saeed and his 4 prime aides.
Saeed, a UN designated terrorist whom the US has positioned a USD 10 million bounty on, was arrested on July 17 last yr in the fear financing cases. He was sentenced to 11 years in jail by an anti-terrorism court in February this yr in two terror financing cases. He is lodged on the Lahore’s high-security Kot Lakhpat jail.
Abdul Salam Bhuttavi, Haji M Ashraf, Yahya Mujahid and Zafar Iqbal – all on the UN Security Council’s terrorists checklist – had been the opposite members of the JuD and Lashkar-e-Taiba who got their financial institution accounts restored, the paper stated.
Saeed-led JuD is the entrance organisation for the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) which is answerable for finishing up the 2008 Mumbai attack that killed 166 individuals, together with six Americans.
The US Department of the Treasury has designated Saeed as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist. He was listed under the UN Security Council Resolution 1267 in December 2008.
His financial institution accounts had been frozen by the Pakistani govt complying with the united states decision.
