Chennai: Suresh Raina, the former batsman of the Indian cricket team, was not bought by any team in the IPL auction. Raina, popularly known as Mr. IPL, has been playing in the league since the first season. He entered the auction for the first time since 2008. Barring the 2016 and 2017 seasons, he was part of Raina’s team in all seasons. Raina had to play for Gujarat Lions after being banned from Chennai for two years in 2016 and 2017. Raina’s IPL career is believed to be over after going unsold in this season’s auction. His base price was Rs 2 crore. It was expected that Raina would be bought by the Chennai team, but it did not happen. Now the franchise has shared it on social media giving him a farewell. In this, Chennai has shared old memories related to Chinna Thala Raina. Raina is one of the most successful batsmen in IPL history. He has 5528 runs in 205 matches at an average of 32.51. This includes 39 fifties and a century. He has hit 203 sixes and 506 fours in the league. Apart from Dhoni, only Suresh Raina has captained Chennai Super Kings in the league. Raina is at number four in terms of scoring the most runs in the league. Apart from this, he also has 25 wickets in bowling. Left-handed batsman Raina retired from international cricket in 2020. He did not participate in the IPL that season either. Last year, the team of Chennai Super Kings won the league title, but Raina’s bat was completely silent. He scored just 160 runs in 12 matches at an average of 17.77 and a strike rate of 125. Earlier, Raina had not scored less than 350 runs in any season of the league.
