Today is considered very important for the country’s oldest political party, Congress. A meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) is to be held in Delhi today, in which a major decision can be taken regarding the Congress President. It is being told that this meeting of the Congress party is taking place in view of the demand for dialogue from the leaders of the G-23 group and recently many leaders have left the party. In such a situation, it will be interesting to see whether the Congress will get a new president or the command will once again go in the hands of the Gandhi family.
Speculation on the interim arrangement intensified, then the names of these leaders started floating
The Congress party’s view is that the internal election process may no longer be possible in respect of the crucial assembly elections to be held in five states in March 2022. Conversely, the party may launch a membership drive which is the first necessary step for the upcoming assembly elections. According to sources, the Congress Working Committee may consider holding the next party elections after the assembly elections. At the same time, the lack of clarity on the issue has fueled speculation about some leaders, including Sachin Pilot and Kamal Nath, as an interim arrangement.
G-23 leaders are under constant pressure for elections
G-23 group leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and Kapil Sibal had demanded a meeting of the CWC. Ghulam Nabi Azad had written a letter to Sonia Gandhi saying that an immediate meeting of the Congress Working Committee should be called to discuss the matters related to the party. At the same time, senior leader Kapil Sibal had raised questions on the party leadership amid the ruckus in the Punjab Congress and said that this situation should be discussed by calling. Simultaneously, organizational elections should be conducted.
The demand for the election of the new president has been going on for the last one and a half years.
Though the Congress has been troubled by the demand for the election of a new party president for the last one and a half years, the paradox is that this period has actually reached the end of the party’s scheduled election calendar 2022. The last internal election in the Congress was held in December 2017 for a term of 5 years, but Rahul Gandhi quit midway in May 2019 after the defeat in the Lok Sabha elections. Since then, Sonia Gandhi has been looking after the work as interim president.
These issues can also be discussed in the meeting of the working committee
According to the information, in the meeting of the Congress Working Committee, the assembly elections in 5 states to be held after a few months, the current political situation as well as the Lakhimpur Kheri violence incident, the farmers’ agitation on the border of Delhi, unemployment, inflation and the issue of economy were discussed. Might be possible. Apart from this, some resolutions can also be passed in the meeting.
