The Health Ministry recently said that additional vaccination requirements and inclusion of the population for vaccination are being continuously considered. The subject expert committee of India’s Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) had on February 14 recommended approval of the biological E’s Covid-19 vaccine Corbevax for emergency use for adolescents aged 12 to 18 years with certain conditions. After this DCGI has given this approval. Let us tell you that DCGI has given its approval to Corbevax for emergency use on a limited basis for adults only on 28 December. This is an RBD based vaccine developed in India against Covid-19. However, this vaccine has not been included in the country’s vaccination campaign. “The DCGI on Monday granted a limited EUA to Corbevax for the age group of 12 to 18 years, subject to certain conditions,” an official source said. It is noteworthy that in an application sent to DCGI on February 9, Srinivas Kosaraju, Head of Quality and Regulatory Affairs, Biologicals E Ltd, had said that the company has been allowed to conduct Phase II-III clinical trials of Corbevax in the age group of five to 18 years.
