ColomboIndia’s white-ball team’s provisional captain Shikhar Dhawan on Saturday said if skipper Virat Kohli or coach Ravi Shastri has a particular player in mind ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup, the team management will definitely take care of that. Dhawan will lead the youth team (which has six uncapped players) for a six-match limited-overs series against Sri Lanka which will be the last chance to see the players perform ahead of the T20 World Cup to be held in the United Arab Emirates from October 17. Dhawan said before the opening ODI on Sunday, ‘I have not had any specific discussion with Virat or Ravi bhai. But I am sure he must have discussed something with Rahul bhai and the selectors and I am sure we will be conveyed this message. The veteran opener said, ‘Whoever plays in this series will keep the T20 World Cup in mind. Obviously if the selectors, Ravi bhai or Virat have a player in mind, we will play that player because it is a good platform. If you want to see a player before the World T20, then this is the only series you have. Although Dhawan did not reveal the playing XI but said that he has decided on his opening partner for the series. He said, ‘We have also decided on my opening partner and team, which we will reveal tomorrow.’ Like coach Rahul Dravid, he also said that there is no rule that he has to try every player in this series. He said, ‘No, we have not decided how many players and whom we will feed.’
