The first match of the Test series was played between England and New Zealand at Lord’s. New Zealand set a target of 273 runs to win against England. England had to achieve this target in 75 overs. England scored 170 for three in 70 overs. This defensive game of England is getting a lot of criticism. It was clear from the manner in which England batted that they were playing for a draw instead of winning the match. Former Indian team cricketer Wasim Jaffer also expressed surprise on this protective game of England. Jaffer criticized England by sharing a meme. Jaffer shared the film ‘Hera Pheri’ meme. He captioned it with- ‘If you don’t try to achieve the target of 3.6 runs per over on home ground, that too when WTC points are not at stake, when will you try now? Not a good example for Test cricket. It is written on this meme of Bollywood film Hera Pheri – ‘Kya Gunda Banega Re Tu’. Earlier, New Zealand had scored 169 runs for 6 wickets. Lunch break was taken early due to rain and New Zealand declared their second innings. Fast bowler Olly Robinson made his debut for England. He took three wickets for 26 runs in the second innings.
