Farmers’ convoys from different parts of Punjab have started their journey towards Delhi to take part in the protest outside the Parliament House during the monsoon session. (SKM) said this in a statement on Monday. Kisan Morcha said, “We had already announced plans to hold protests from July 22 during the monsoon session of Parliament.
Farmers’ journey from many districts like Ludhiana, Sangrur
“Dozens of caravans from different districts including Ludhiana, Sangrur, Mansa, Bathinda, Barnala, Ropar, Fazilka and Faridkot have left for Singhu and Tikri border,” the United Kisan Morcha said. The United Kisan Morcha, an organization of 40 farmers’ unions, has been protesting since November demanding the withdrawal of three new agricultural laws and a legal guarantee of the Minimum Support Price (MSP).
200 farmers will protest outside parliament
The organization also reiterated its intention to send a warning letter to the opposition parties by July 17 to raise the issue of farmers’ rights in Parliament. “Then, from July 22 till the end of the session, five members of each farmer organization, totaling at least 200 farmers, will protest outside Parliament,” the SKM said. The government, which has been touting the laws as major agrarian reforms, has offered to amend the laws, but has refused to repeal them.
Farmers’ organizations continue to protest against BJP leaders
United Kisan Morcha also said that protests against BJP leaders are continuing in Punjab and today a rally was organized against BJP leader Harjit Grewal at Dhanola in Barnala district. “After gathering at Dana Mandi of Dhanola, the protesters reached Dhanola Bazar raising slogans of repeal of black agricultural laws and bringing in a law that guarantees MSP,” the United Front statement said.
