Hollywood star Halle Berry has apologised and pulled out from playing a transgender character in a film following criticism on social media.
The 53-year-old actor had spoken in regards to the function throughout an Instagram Live interview.
“(The movie is about) a personality where the girl is a trans character, so she’s a girl that transitioned into a person,” Berry mentioned in the interview with hairstylist Christin Brown.
“She’s a personality in a challenge I like that I is likely to be doing.”
The announcement was adopted by extreme social media backlash with many individuals highlighting the problem of cisgender actors playing transgender roles in Hollywood.
Berry apologised on Monday evening and tweeted that she was not contemplating the function.

Hollywood is waking as much as criticism in terms of trans illustration onscreen. In the past, cisgender actors have played trans characters be it Jared Leto in Dallas Buyers Club or Eddie Redmayne in The Danish Girl.
In 2018, Scarlett Johansson was forged to play Dante Tex Gill, a transgender man, in Rupert Sanders’ Rub and Tug. She dropped out from the function after owing to extreme backlash from the LGBTQ+ group.
