The Foreign Secretary said on Saturday that there is unrest in Afghanistan. India has to be ready to deal with any dire situation arising from the neighboring country. The situation may worsen due to humanitarian crisis and lack of administration there. In a session at the India Today Conclave, Shringla said that like many other countries, India also wants to provide humanitarian aid to the people of Afghanistan. “As far as humanitarian aid is concerned, like many other members of the international community, we have said that the needs of the people of Afghanistan and those in power are two different things,” the foreign secretary said. Referring to New Delhi’s security concerns after the developments in Afghanistan, he said all possible steps would be taken to ensure that the situation in the neighboring country does not affect India. Shringla said this at a time when the first talks between the US and the Taliban have started after the military withdrawal from Afghanistan. Senior Taliban officials and US representatives are going to start a new chapter in mutual relations by starting talks in Qatar. According to the report of Al Jazeera, the acting foreign minister of Afghanistan has confirmed this. The in-person meetings, which began in Doha on Saturday, are the first such effort since the withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan in August, ending a 20-year military presence and the Taliban coming to power.
