Manoj Tiwari became the sports minister from cricketer, now named in the fitness camp of Bengal team

KolkataState Sports Minister Manoj Tiwari, who started his political innings through the assembly elections this year, has been named in the list of 39 probables of the Cricket Association of Bengal. The former Bengal captain played the last Ranji Trophy match against Saurashtra in March 2020. Tiwari had said after winning the election from Shivpur, ‘I will maintain my fitness. I don’t rule out playing for Bengal for some more time. The fitness camp of Bengal’s senior prospects will start from July 23.

Tiwari, who became an MLA for the first time, was sworn in as a minister on May 10 along with 43 other leaders. The cricketer, who got the charge of the Minister of State for Sports and Youth, had joined the TMC along with his wife just before the elections. He had registered a landslide victory from the Shibpur assembly seat of Howrah.

Played 12 ODIs for India
Manoj Tiwari made his debut for Team India in the year 2008. The last ODI match was played in July 2015. Manoj Tiwary, who scored a total of 287 runs in 12 ODIs for India, has also played three T20 matches. Tiwari’s international career may not have been long, but his performance in the Ranji Trophy in 2006-07 cannot be forgotten. In this season, he scored 796 runs at an average of 99.50. In IPL, Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Daredevils and Rising Pune Supergiants showed their strength.
