PM Modi chairs high-level meeting: Amid the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia (Russia-Ukraine Crisis) and the exercise to bring back the Indians trapped there, () held a high-level meeting here on Sunday. During this the ground situation was also reviewed. Apart from Modi, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and senior central government officials were present in the meeting. The meeting comes at a time when Russian forces on Sunday attempted to take control of strategic ports in the southern region following attacks on several Ukrainian airports, fuel stations and other installations. In the cities, however, Russia is facing tremendous resistance from Ukraine. Sources related to the matter said that the meeting of the PM lasted for more than two hours. In the meeting, the PM said that ensuring the safety of our students and expelling them from Ukraine is our top priority. In addition, discussions were held to enhance cooperation with Ukraine’s neighboring countries to expedite the evacuation. In view of the global situation arising in the wake of the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, Prime Minister Modi had spoken to Russian President Vladimir Putin recently and appealed to stop the violence and start talks. After this, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday held talks with Modi and sought political support from India at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to stop Russia’s military offensive against his country. During this, India expressed its commitment to contribute in any way to the peace restoration efforts between the two countries. Modi expressed deep anguish over the loss of life and property due to the ongoing conflict there. He also urged the Ukrainian authorities to take appropriate steps for the speedy and safe evacuation of Indian nationals. India has so far been successful in bringing back close to one thousand of its citizens. Its priority is to bring back the stranded Indians there.
