antigaWest Indies legend Sir Vivian Richards has slammed explosive batsman Chris Gayle for his critical remarks on former fast bowler Curtly Ambrose. Ambrose recently said that Gayle was not an automatic choice for the ICC T20 World Cup. Gayle then said that he does not respect Ambrose. Ambrose said on a radio show, ‘For me from the beginning, Gayle did not like automatic. If you look at his innings in the last 18 months, he has struggled not only for West Indies but also for other T20 franchises. He did not score runs in some home series also. Angered by this, Gayle retorted, saying, ‘When I was associated with the team, I used to look at Ambrose. But now I am saying from my heart that ever since Ambrose retired, he has turned against Gayle. He is doing such negative things in front of the press, I don’t know maybe he is trying to grab headlines. I want to tell you personally that Gayle, who is the universe boss, does not respect Ambrose. To this Richards said, ‘Sir Ambrose has earned the right to speak. Gayle should improve his performance instead of targeting him. In an interview, Richards said, ‘It is Ambrose’s own opinion that he can put it. He has achieved the same feat at the higher level as Gayle has. When you hear such things, it comes from someone who is a legend of his department in the sport we all have represented. You should respect them.’
