Three Indian players including Shreyas Iyer in the race for ‘ICC Player of the Month’

Dubai: The ICC has announced the ICC Women’s and Men’s nominees for February. Many international matches have been played in the last month. The ICC has nominated three women’s players and three men’s players. There are only three players from the Indian team in this. Among the contenders for the Men’s Cricketer of the Month are India’s Vritya Aravind of the UAE and Deepender Singh Airi of Nepal. Iyer scored 204 runs in the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka in February without getting out. He scored these runs at a strike rate of 174.35. He also played an innings of 80 runs in the last ODI against West Indies. The 19-year-old from UAE scored 267 runs at an average of 89 in five matches of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier A. In the same tournament, Deepender Singh of Nepal took 6 wickets along with scoring 159 runs. In women’s cricket, two players of the Indian team are nominated – captain and all-rounder Deepti Sharma. In the 5-match ODI series against New Zealand, Mithali scored 232 runs at an average of 77.33. He played three half-centuries. In that series, he scored 116 runs in batting with 10 wickets in bowling. He played an unbeaten innings of 69 runs in the third match. The last time an Indian player won this award was in March 2021. New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr was in tremendous rhythm in the series against India. He scored 353 runs in 5 matches at a strike rate of 117.66. It had three half-centuries and one century. He also took 7 wickets. He twice received the Player of the Match as well as the Player of the Series award.
