Jaunpur Police arrested a 70-year-old man from Chennai for accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of spreading the corona virus. Jaunpur Superintendent of Police Ajay Sahni told reporters on Monday that 70-year-old Manmohan Mishra, a resident of Kohdaura village of Sureri police station area, was booked under relevant sections at Nagar Kotwali for making objectionable remarks on the Prime Minister. On this basis, Jaunpur police arrested Mishra from Chennai on Sunday and brought him on transit remand on Monday and produced him in the court from where he was sent to jail. Sahni said that the arrested Manmohan Mishra had made a video viral on social media in which he made an objectionable statement regarding the third wave of Covid-19.

According to the official, through this video, Mishra had done the work of spreading fear among the public by giving unscientific arguments. The police took suo motu cognizance of Mishra’s statement and under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Epidemic Act and Disaster Management Act in Nagar Kotwali, Nagar Kotwal Sanjeev Mishra had registered a case on August 8.

After investigation by the police and finding out the mobile location, the address of accused Manmohan Mishra was found in BRD Nagar police station Madhav Varam district Chennai. Kotwali police arrested him by going to Chennai on the basis of the location.

Villagers of Kohdaura told that during the lockdown last year, Mishra stayed in the village for about four months and he inspired the youth of the village to adopt yoga. According to the villagers, Mishra was promoting the yoga of Baba Ramdev in Tamil Nadu.
