Don’t share your heart with people too much. When he said goodbye to international cricket in August last year, it was a shocking decision for everyone. Dhoni is the only captain to have won all three ICC trophies – T20 World Cup (2007), World Cup (2011) and Champions Trophy (2013). Dhoni announced his retirement by posting a video on Instagram. The song ‘Main Pal Do Pal Ka Shayar Hoon…’ was playing in the background. Dhoni was in UAE for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 with the team of Chennai Super Kings. He had removed the curtain from his sudden retirement decision. His teammate from Chennai, Ruturaj Gaikwad told that no one in the team of Chennai Super Kings was aware of Dhoni’s plan. He said that August 15, the day Dhoni announced his retirement, was like a normal day. Dhoni had dinner with teammates from Chennai. However, Gaikwad and the rest of the team were stunned when they came to know about Dhoni’s retirement through social media. The Chennai Super Kings opener said that it took 2-3 days for the team to adjust to Dhoni’s retirement decision. On the question related to Dhoni’s retirement, Gaikwad said that when Dhoni is there, anything is possible. He said, ‘I had no idea about Dhoni’s retirement. I remember he announced his retirement on 15th August. Before leaving for Dubai, there were 10-12 people in the practice camp of Chennai Super Kings. Our practice ended around 6:30 pm and we sat down for dinner at 7 pm. Mahi bhai was also with us. Suddenly someone told me on Instagram that my brother has announced his retirement! We had no idea what was about to happen. No discussion. Nobody knew anything. So you can’t say anything about them. Anything can happen.’ Gaikwad told India TV, “I couldn’t dare to ask him as we were trying to figure it out. We did not understand right away that now we will not be able to see him again in international cricket. We could not imagine that a man of his stature had taken such retirement. It took us two or three to sense it. Not just me, everyone present there. Along with Dhoni, his teammate Suresh Raina also announced his retirement from international cricket. Both Dhoni and Raina used to play together for Chennai Super Kings.
