Kabul: The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Affairs (UNHCR) said on Friday that the Taliban had detained two foreign journalists working with the global body’s refugee agency and several of its Afghan personnel in Kabul. The development comes at a time when US President Joe Biden is expected to issue an official order to provide $3.5 billion in humanitarian aid to Afghanistan from US financial institutions. “Two journalists who went to work for the UNHCR were taken into custody in Kabul,” the refugee agency said. We are trying our best to resolve the situation in coordination with others. One of the detained journalists is Andrew, a former BBC journalist who has worked extensively in Afghanistan. His wife Natalia Anteleva has posted an appeal on Twitter for his release.
