Women’s Asia Cup Hockey: Gurjit’s hat-trick helped India thrash Singapore 9-1

Muscat: A hat-trick from Gurjit Kaur and two goals each from Monica and Jyoti helped defending champions India beat Singapore 9-1 in their Pool A match of the Women’s Asia Cup hockey to enter the semi-finals. This is the second win for the Indian team in three matches in Pool A. The team had defeated Malaysia 9-0 in their opening match, while in the previous match, Japan had upset them by defeating them 2-0.

Forget the failure of the last match
Leaving behind the failure of the previous match, India showed a great game against Singapore. Gurjeet (8th, 37th, 48th minute) converted two penalty corners while Monika (6th, 17th minute) and Jyoti (43rd, 58th) scored two field goals each. Vandana Katariya (8th minute) and Mariana Kujur (10th minute) also scored.

India will face Korea in the semi-finals
India will take on Pool B table toppers Korea in the first semi-final on Wednesday. Japan topped the table after beating Malaysia 8-0 in another Pool A match. They will face China in another match of the last four.

The final of the tournament will be played on Thursday. The top four teams of the tournament, co-hosted by Spain and the Netherlands, automatically qualified for this year’s FIH World Cup.
