Kolkata: The veteran wicketkeeper (Wriddhiman Saha) has been dropped from the Test squad (OUT From) selected for the series against Sri Lanka. The senior wicket-keeper of the Indian Test team on Saturday revealed that the team management led by the head coach (Wriddhiman Saha) had asked him to consider retiring as he would no longer be considered for selection. On 8 February, Wriddhiman withdrew from the Ranji Trophy after he was told that he would not be selected in the Indian team. An upset Wriddhiman told media persons on Saturday, ‘The team management told me that I will not be considered now. I couldn’t tell this till I was part of the Indian team. He told that even coach Rahul Dravid suggested that I think of retiring now. He gave information about his confidential conversation with the head coach. Wriddhiman also took a jibe at BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, whom he claimed had assured him that he should not worry about his place in the team. Saha said- When I scored an unbeaten 61 in the first Test against New Zealand in Kanpur last November while taking painkillers, my grandmother (as Sourav is called by the Bengal players) congratulated me on WhatsApp. Saha said that he even said that I should not worry about the selection as long as he is at the top of the BCCI. This kind of message from the Board President had really boosted my confidence, but I failed to understand why everything changed so fast. It is noteworthy that senior batsmen Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, fast bowler Ishant Sharma have also been left out from the Sri Lanka series. KS Bharat has been selected in the Test team as the second choice after Pant as a wicketkeeper.
