The commission has started this essay competition which will start on Saturday on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. Election Commission has started this competition ‘Election Commission of India Annual National Essay Competition on Election and Democracy’ in association with ‘India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM)’ and (JGLS), OP Jindal Global University which will be held on 2nd October. From 21st November, The competition has two themes – the first theme – ‘Legal Framework for Social Media Regulations during Elections’ and the second theme – ‘The Role of the Election Commission in Protecting and Preserving Electoral Democracy’. The Essay Competition will be conducted online in both Hindi and English languages. Chief Election Commissioner, Shri Sushil Chandra said that this contest is an attempt to encourage young and bright students of LA schools to research the laws and policies governing elections in India. He also said that this essay competition will provide a platform to the students to showcase their depth of knowledge, analytical ability and inspiring style of writing. Election Commissioner Shri Anoop Chandra Pandey said that the participants need to study about the various constitutional and legal aspects of the democratic process in general and electoral provisions in particular. He also expressed confidence that the young contestants of this competition will come out with brilliant writings on the subjects.
